napoleon perdis make up!

if you look at a post i did last week, you would see that i love napoleon perdis lipsticks but i haven't really tried other items from his line (this is the higher end line--not the target np set). i finally got my make up actually done by a napoleon perdis make up artist. i asked him to give me a smokey eye because everytime i do smokey, its not that smokey. so he showed me exactly how to do everything and this is how it turned out:

face
napoleon perdis auto pilot primer
napoleon perdis china doll foundation
napoleon perdis patrol conceal it
napoleon perdis mosaic powder in bronzing and blushing

eyes
napoleon perdis color disc in black (#28)
napoleon perdis prismatic quad in #5
napoleon perdis china doll eye liner
smashbox hyperlash mascara

eye brows
anastasia brow pencil

lips

i loved the foundation and i usually do not wear liquid foundation but this was different. It is a full coverage foundation with a matte finish but it does not feel heavy and that is what i am always worried about if and when i wear liquid foundation. And it blends in perfectly, like it did not leave streaks. I also loved that you did not need to put a powder over the foundation as it does not need one (i have normal to dry and sensitive skin, so maybe with oily skin an oil-absorbing powder would be appropriate over this foundation).

oh hot weather!

why do i just love san francisco weather? it is always different and today happened to be super hot (88 degrees) and it was my first day of school but because i'm a nursing student, i had to wear scrubs...and i was so hot and the building i was in seemed to have no air going through it..not good

well i didnt want to feel like my make up was melting off my face today because it was so hot, so i wore very little and this is what i think one should be wearing on a hot day:

1. sunscreen always! on body and face...this is so important and it protects our body from the sun's damage
2. tinted moisturizer...i don't think on hot days we should wear a lot on our face because it might look like its melting or sweating off and it could also feel heavy...my favorite tms are urban decay, stila, and smashbox (and i have hear laura mercier is good too)
3. a good waterproof mascara or a mascara that won't move during the day...you don't want to have mascara under your eyes...which is why i also recommend putting very little or no mascara on bottom lashes
4. a great lipstain...lipstains are amazing and they do not move, so it is perfect because it does not feel like you are wearing much on your lips but you still get color and you do not have to touch up as much as lipgloss or lipstick
5. and if you want a little on your eyes, black eyeliner, but not a lot..just a simple black line on your top lashes

this is my fotd:
face
neutrogena face sunscreen
philosophy the present
urban decay tm with a little pur minerals powder over
smashbox concealer
benefit coralista

eyes
smashbox hyperlash

swatches: stila long wear liquid lip colors!

i was really excited when these came out because i love bold color lipstick and it was long wearing..my kind of thing! so i wore petal the first day ulta got it and i got to say that i really liked the brightness of the lip color but these are so drying on the lips, that i feel like you need to wear a lipgloss on top, even if it's clear, because the lip color just sits in your cracks in your lips.

stila's long wear liquid lip colors are a full coverage, matte finish lip color. these lip colors are long-wearing, just like they said; i had food and a drink at starbucks and the lip color still did look perfect like i did just put it on, so that is a big plus. i also wear the lip color without a lip liner and no feathering happened, which is great!

if you put the lip color on straight from the wand, it deposits a lot of color, so what i actually do, is put some lip color on my fingers and then go from my fingers to my lips; this seems to tone the color down a little bit.

note: these are the four that ulta carries; there are two more colors that i believe sephora carries

petal: pale pink
coral: shimmery coral
patina: warm nude
muse: natural mauve

my skin care routine

Some people have been asking me lately what my skin care routine is and this is everything that I use. Now let me first mention that I have normal to dry skin and it is sensitive (not too sensitive, but if i use something on my face that my skin hates, my face either turns to sand paper or the skin under my eye brows start to peel...it's not pretty). I have also been taking care of my skin since I was 13; I just used clean and clear foaming face wash and the moisturizer that went with it. I did that until I was 16, then I switched to Clinique's face wash and moisturizer. Then when I was 18, I started to work at Origins, inside Macys, and that is where my skin care routine increased: cleanser, serum, moisturizer, eye cream, and everything else in between. At 21, this is where my skin care routine is now:

am routine:

murad redness therapy soothing gel cleanser (i have redness in my cheeks and this helps calms the redness really well)
mario badescu toner
ddf mesohealthy cell injection serum (i really should not be using this but it is amazing. it's suppose to help with fine lines and hydration, but i love this product--i had strayed away from it but i had to come back to it and at $84 a bottle)
murad pomegranate moisturizer (again, i have strayed away from this and came back...bare escentuals moisturizer would be my hg but it doesnt have spf)
korres evening primose eye cream

pm routine:
philosophy purity made simple (big HG!!)
mario badescu toner
boscia recharging night moisturizer (got this in a swap and it is amazing)
bare escentuals eye cream
others:
origins modern friction (this is probably the best exfoliator i have ever tried..my skin feels amazing and smooth after this)
philosophy microdelivery peel pads
peter thomas roth mega rich anti-aging cellular moisture masque (yes again for anti-aging but this product hydrates my skin like no other)

napoleon perdis lipstick in calypso

I have been on the hunt for the perfect hot pinkish lipstick and I think I found it: napoleon perdis lipstick in calypso. I had not heard about napoleon perdis until it came into ulta. I gotta say that I think i love this lipstick. Calypso is a bold matte pink shade. It stays on for hours and is a creamy, but does not move thoughout the day. I got to say that the formula is pretty amazing. It can be a little drying: adding a little gloss on top will help it need feel so drying.

When I go out with this lipstick, I get lots of comments on how pretty it is. It really does help focus on your lips, so just keep your eye make up simple, as I have: little black eye liner, mascara, and a highlighter color.

how i keep my bright lipstick in place:
1. powder your lips with a powder foundation (i just pur minerals or bare escentuals)
2. line lips with lip liner (i used cargo's reverse lip liner--it helps just a little pout)
3. to put on lipstick, use a lip brush
4. blot with a tissue
5. add a little bit more lipstick with the brush
6. add gloss, if needed

green and blue fotd

my first blog FOTD! :)

i wanted to do something pretty and fairly easy, and i had to use my favorite eyeshadow color: green!
a girl cannot go wrong with green eye shadow..

especially mac's lucky green eyeshadow. mac describes this color as a frosted midtone lime (vp)..this is probably one of my favorite green eye shadow colors. It makes the green in my eyes pop out a lot more than normal. It has some golden tones in it which is why i love to pair it with mac gorgeous gold; they blend into each other very well. I usually think of a lime color that is bright but lucky green is not that bright if you pair it with the right colors.
